Going Outside Wakes You Up

A new study published this month in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, finally points out what we’ve known for years – going outside into nature is really, really, good for you.

The study shows that getting out into nature is better for rejuvenating the mind and spirit then pretty much anything else – including coffee.

The authors performed experiments on college students (who wouldn’t want that job??) and discovered that those students who either spent time outdoors or imagined themselves outdoors consistently felt more energetic and less tired.

The researchers concluded that with just 20 minutes a day spent outside in nature, your vitality levels will significantly rise.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across a study that claimed nature helps mitigate depression as much or more then exercise.  Again, I’m not terribly surprised.

So, next time you’re feeling down or you have the 3 pm groggies, head outside for a quick walk in a park and you’ll feel a whole lot better.
